‘Volunteering here makes me feel like I’m doing something worthwhile.

I’d heard about Restore Hope at church, but didn’t really know too much about it. But then I felt a calling as I was nearing retirement and thought I’d really like to get involved. When I first came along, I visited the cafe and I liked the atmosphere. I mentioned I could drive a minibus and within the hour, I was signed up and ready to help.

Now I mainly volunteer in the cafe and drive the minibus to collect the families who wouldn’t be able to make it otherwise. You see people having their ups and downs, but there’s a strong, supportive network around them and I’m proud to be part of that. It’s a privilege for me to encourage mums who are having a hard time, having been there myself.

And I have to say, it’s loads of fun!

The staff are lovely and check in with you regularly. You get to help people, meet new friends and enjoy yourself. Restore Hope is a great place to be.’
