big love
big faith
big hope
Did you know…
There are more than 6,446 local residents across Amersham and Chesham at a higher risk of food poverty, who are worrying about having enough food to feed themselves and their families
More than one in ten local people lack qualifications, making it incredibly challenging to secure gainful employment
Over 1000 children are living in poverty in Amersham and Chesham - this means that in the last month, their families were unable to provide the basic essentials like having enough food, a warm home and suitable clothing
Poor mental health is on the rise across all age groups, increasing by 74% from 139 to 242 per 100,000
(from local Community Boards 2021)
These are big numbers but it doesn’t have to be this way. When we come together as a community we can change the social mobility narrative to one that declares this area as the best in the country for raising aspirations for everyone no matter where they find themselves.
Restore Hope exists to bring hope to families in the local area.
At the heart of our work is a simple but powerful belief: that change happens when people feel seen, valued and supported over time.
While Buckinghamshire is often perceived as an affluent and desirable county - known for its green spaces, high performing schools and strong transport links - it is also home to deep-rooted pockets of deprivation. Our local communities of Chesham, Amersham and Little Chalfont demonstrate significant inequality and hidden hardship, especially among families living in social housing or low incomes.
According to a recent study, our area of the Chilterns is one of the worst places in England for the critical deprivation factor of social mobility.
What does this mean? It means that children born into poverty are likely to remain in poverty through to adulthood, and across the generations, even though we also have great resources here like exceptional schools, high rates of health and low rates of crime.
Restore Hope is working to change that by empowering local people with skills for life and stronger mental health.
We believe that to support families out of intergenerational poverty, we must go beyond offering a single intervention. Our experience confirms that families facing hardship often live with multiple and overlapping challenges - such as food insecurity, social isolation, poor mental health and educational or behavioural needs in children.
That is why our programme is holistic and relational. Through consistent programming, such as life skills courses, parenting and budgeting support, employability training and food provision, we walk alongside people at their own pace, helping them overcome immediate challenges and build long-term resilience.
